Three cron pitfalls I keep hitting

PATH. Cron runs with a minimal environment. Use absolute paths or set PATH at the top of the crontab.

Time zones. The server is in UTC, I am not. Write the zone next to every schedule.

Silent failures. Redirect output to a log or to mail. A job that fails quietly for a month is worse than one that never existed.
